Rederive Mice

Strain rederivation, by embryo transfer, is a management tool to clean a mouse line from pathogen infection or to import mice into a barrier facility from outside vivarium. We offer rederivation service by IVF or ICSI followed by embryo transfer. Sperm cryopreservation is highly recommended for the mutant male being used for IVF or ICSI, if the mutant male is the only male available or limited in number.

Embryos derived by IVF or ICSI are cultured overnight to the 2-cell stage, and then surgically transferred into the oviducts of pseudopregnant female recipients 0.5 day post coitum. If no pups are obtained from the first IVF or ICSI, we will repeat the procedure once at no additional charge

Mouse numbers required for rederivation:

For heterozygous line rederivation, we like to receive 3 males from our customer, and we will purchase the female mice as egg donors for IVF, but please specify which vendor (i.e., Taconic, Charles River, Harland, JAX) you like.  For homozygous line rederivation, we like to receive 3 males and 10-15 females per line from our customer. The perfect male age is 8-12 weeks old, and the perfect female age is 3-4 weeks old.

Rate for Rederivation

The rate for rederivation of a mouse line is $2728 for University of California investigators or $3939 for all other academic investigators
